Trials
A trial consists of a test of a new element for the game, whether this will be be new maps, testing game modes, new rules or modifications to enhance the competitive game. Trials will try to work from the existing framework of rules to keep things as familiar as possible. If you have maps that you would like to see tested, mods, rule ideas please post them in this thread for consideration.
Trial I - Trial By Combat - Friday 18th July -> Monday 21st July 2014 This trial will test the courage of our competitors on the unknown maps of Brezeliad and Castellum. The draw map will be Winterburg, standard WNL rules apply.
Brezeliad Brezeliad is a tight and intense map where the large housing blocks in the middle make positional decisions critical. Likely to favour infantry, key points include the tower and platform, with the former dominating one flag location and the latter denying entry from several directions to another.
Castellum Castellum is a map most similar to Reveran Village, one of the best open maps the community has produced. It features a central open town on a mound surrounded by open ground. The large number of crossfire locations make map control here critical. Important locations include the market and the tower.
Introduction & Information
The Trials are to be a series of irregular tournaments, each one of which will be played by 4 teams over a single weekend. The aim is to provide a short and sharp tournament of limited scope which allows for focused testing of new maps, game rules, game modes and server side modifications. Testing changes and new maps can be difficult for larger tournaments since applying changes mid way reduces their legitimacy and making unpopular changes reduces participation. This will give a low risk way of trying new things out and will also give room for more than the 4 competing teams to try it as teams will be likely to do at least some training beforehand against other teams that are not directly involved.
Each Trial will be based on existing standard 8v8 rules as used in the Nations Cup and the Warband Native League. The tournament format will consist of a first round with two randomly generated matchups and a second round with a finals and a 3rd place match for an overall total of four matches. In order to simplify the job for the teams, all matches will be played with the same settings, factions and maps.
The tournament will be invitational since its short nature requires only 4 teams compete. If you would like to take part please make your interest known in this thread (or contact me via pm or steam). While I can't guarantee a place for any team in any single Trial, I will try to incorporate any teams who show interest in subsequent trials. Winning a trials tournament grants the winner the right to utilise the much sought after and coveted trials victory badge, also said winning team will be recorded in the Hall Of Champions.
Summary
-Test Maps, game modes, rules, mods. -4 Teams compete in knockout tournament. -Quick tournament completed in a single weekend. -Take part in actively improving the competitive scene!
